Independent pet retailer serving Jonesborough, Tennessee.

The Partnership

Working with Pet Engine Marketing since April 2023.

The Goal

Increase sales and attract more customers with a consistent marketing strategy.

The Work

Strategy, SEO, email, promotions, social media, website support, advertising, and reporting.

The Store Had Momentum. Marketing Needed a System.

Tennessee Tails opened in 2020 to serve a growing community without another independent pet store nearby. The store had built a loyal customer base, developed strong community events, and created a shopping experience customers appreciated.

But marketing was still largely dependent on the owner. Previous agencies hadn’t provided the pet-retail experience, reporting, or strategic guidance the business needed. Promotions and events created opportunities, but they weren’t always supported by a coordinated plan across email, search, social media, advertising, and the website.

Tennessee Tails wanted more than marketing activity. The goal was clear: increase sales, attract new customers, and build a system capable of supporting long-term growth and expansion.

Where We Started

Connecting Marketing to What Was Happening Inside the Store

Growth didn’t come from one campaign or channel. Pet Engine helped Tennessee Tails coordinate its marketing around customer behavior, local demand, seasonal opportunities, and the priorities of the business.

The Marketing System

A Marketing Calendar Built Around the Store

We helped develop a marketing calendar to coordinate promotions and in-store events around seasonal opportunities, community events, and priority products.

More Reasons for Customers to Return

Email campaigns, loyalty promotions, customer segmentation, a birthday club, referral offers, and product-focused campaigns helped the store stay connected with existing customers.

Stronger Local Search Visibility

We improved website content, search optimization, Google Business Profile activity, local keyword visibility, and reporting so more nearby pet parents could discover Tennessee Tails.

Ongoing Strategy and Measurement

Monthly planning, POS reporting, campaign reviews, website improvements, and regular strategy conversations helped connect marketing decisions to KPIs connected to revenue.

More Transactions. Larger Purchases. Three Years of Revenue Growth.

Tennessee Tails didn’t grow through larger purchases alone. The store completed more transactions while also increasing the average amount customers spent during each visit.

From 2022 through 2025, annual revenue increased 51%. During the same period, transactions increased 17% and average ticket size increased 30%.

That momentum continued into 2026. During the first half of the year, revenue increased another 27%, transactions increased 14%, and revenue per transaction increased 12% compared with the first half of 2025.

How We Measure the Results

Revenue, transaction, and average-ticket changes were calculated using Tennessee Tails’ point-of-sale data. Revenue is displayed as percentages and an indexed chart to protect private client information.

The business results reflect growth during the Pet Engine partnership. We do not claim that every sale was caused by one marketing channel or campaign.
